Saved by Twitter

Sunday afternoon was just looking great for a bike ride. I was behind all weekend as my niece had a birthday party on Saturday and there were all kinds of missed communication by the family, but from about 3 pm I was on the Bianchi, possibly the best ride I’ve had yet on that bike. I was on a tight schedule, needing to do a bit more shopping at three stores before they closed, but I was going great.

Until my chain broke.

Fortunately, I was prepared for this kind of emergency, not with tools, but with my phone. I was prepared to call home to see if my sister was able to come get me, but I decided instead to try something different. I used my phone and posted to Twitter to see if any of my friends was in the area and able to come get me. Soon, Jeff Kang, one of the gang of Twitterers who I’ve become pals with in the last few months, showed up in his truck to take me back to mine, about 8 miles away.

I was even able to get the rest of my shopping done.

Kudos to Jeff and Twitter. That not just made my day, but gave me a blog post about how I got saved after a major mechanical problem on a ride.
