What to Expect When You Have Diabetes by the American Diabetes Association

I just finished up reading this book that I discussed in brief a few posts back:

While it is not my favorite beginning diabetic book (that remains the great Type II Diabetes: The First Year), it’s quite useful, particularly for those who read in small doses and want concrete ideas on what to do rather than a lot of theory and medical information.

The cover of the book says that it includes “170 tips for living well with diabetes”. It also includes a useful glossary to help to define those terms that perplex new diabetics such as hemoglobin a1c, retinopathy and proteinuria within its 216 pages.

The book seems to have useful tips, including what to eat during sick days, discussion on medication, and weight management. While I wouldn’t recommend this book as the ultimate source of information, it’s practical and easy to read, making it helpful even for those with limited time or attention spans. I think it’s a winner.
