My Story Part Seventy Four

I got a shot of adrenaline last week Sunday. I was out on my bike, doing a very cursory ride–just an hour–and was about to finish it off, pulling into a driveway at the parking lot of a nearby mall.

At that point I was hit by a car coming out of the same driveway I pulled into.
The car hit my bike–and me–on the left side, fortunately at a low rate of speed. I was pushed out onto the road, about six feet, but never lost balance, so I never fell, and ended up unhurt–as did my Bianchi.

It’s not like this was the first encounter I’ve ever had with an automobile.
It’s probably about my tenth, and it’s by no means the worst. Still, any incident is an incident, and it causes one to think. But it’s not nearly enough for me to even consider giving up cycling. Make changes? Maybe. Be glad that even though it ended up not being needed, I was wearing a helmet.

The one thing that, as a diabetic, I really think affects me more than someone who is not with these incidents is those shots of adrenaline are, as far as my blood glucose goes, it’s like sucking down pure sugar. I didn’t have my glucometer with me at the time I was hit, but it’s clear that I felt like I was having very high sugar readings. After a short time I felt very sluggish and like sleeping.

I’m better, and everything right now is fine.

I’ll just be more careful pulling into driveways.
