My Story, Part Eighty Eight
I’m cautiously optimistic. I’m having some of the best training runs I’ve ever had and I feel pretty darned fine, but I am having the occasional bit of knee pain in both knees and my back, while better than when I started this current training program, still hurts and is stiff from time to time.
That said, this alternating series of hard and easy workouts seems to be a lot better for my body than what I was doing before, which was basically alternating going hard with going hard.
I’ve gotten about 1/3 through the Non-Runner’s Marathon Trainer’s training program, and except for the 8K run this past Sunday which caused me to skip my long run for the week, I’ve gotten to the point where I can run nine miles non stop, which is better than I’ve ever done–even the year I finished the marathon I had to stop running after seven miles.
While running right now ought to be in the forefront of my training, since I’ll have had three running events in the first two months of the year, I have a secret hope to be able to maintain a long run of 12 miles throughout most of the year while running four days a week. We’ll see how that goes as the year goes along–and why that is my secret wish.
