My Story, Part Ninety
I’m tired and sore but I had a fine time and I learned more about myself, even if I didn’t reach my speed goal. Today was the 8K, the second of three races in the Great Aloha Run Readiness Series. In addition to a nice shirt, I ran myself up and down a hill and put in just about 5 miles at a more than fast pace, rather than the 10 miles easy I was supposed to do.
Still, I learned a lot about myself, including that I still go too fast when I’m in a race at the start–and fail to finish as strong as I want.
Since the only person I’m ever racing is me, I sort of lost to myself. While I’ve never run an 8K before (so this was a personal record), it was a slower pace than I did in the 5K, when I wasn’t nearly in the shape I’m in now. I hold my desire to go faster than I really can for longer than I really can responsible for that.
The question is: have I learned my lesson?
We’ll see in a couple of weeks.
