My Story Part One Hundred Nineteen

I’m anxious. The Haleiwa Metric Century, my first really long event of the season, is next week.

While cycling is lots easier on the body than running, most running events–save the marathon–don’t have you out on the road for hours on end. My own training–low “recovery” heart rate running–keeps me out there longer on ten mile runs than the Great Aloha Run or any of the other events I’ve entered this year.

My estimate is that I’ll be out on the road for a bit over four hours this time.

This year I’ve yet to be on the bike more than a hair over three hours. This afternoon I’ll put in a couple hours, then tomorrow (Sunday) I’ll go for three.

We’ll see how all of this goes. I hope my anxiety is unfounded.
