I was planning to get back into full swing now that my vacation’s technically over, but we had some news that’s not the best: my aunt in Seattle passed away unexpectedly. So I’ll be dealing with that (including getting my mother and aunt who live on island to Seattle) for a bit. My apologies.

I’m off for a few days from my job, so I’ll be off a few days from here as well. Expect posts to be sporadic and I’ll be back in a bit.

If there’s anything that’s common to everyone’s training program it’s to drink a lot of water. Fortunately, in Hawai’i, we have absolutely great tasting water. And it’s cheap enough–sometimes free. The problem is getting enough of it. I’ve been taking a stainless steel water bottle around with me everywhere at work. I’m not measuring how […]

Injury is at the forefront of my mind. After losing some training time to my post basketball back pain, now I’m losing some miles to my inured knee on Sunday’s hike. I’ve got a lot to lose right now too. The biggest events of the year are all ahead of me. Perhaps I need to […]

In more ways than one, time is definitely not on my side. Athletic performance is highly dependent on youth, and like everyone else, I get older every day. I’m having difficulty fitting all of my workouts in. the Livestrong Philadelphia events are on the horizon. I’ve got deadlines looming. The positive part about deadlines is […]

I’m injured but I believe not too much. I fell on today’s hike, scraping my knee. I was able to finish the hike without much difficulty, but my right knee–where I fell–felt a little odd. So I put off today’s ride, although I’m still considering doing one, just not very long. We’ll see how I […]

Does Hiking Equal Running?

Every so often, instead of a Sunday run, I go on a Sunday hike, this past week to Kuliou’ou with a bunch of my Twitter friends. It’s a nice change of pace. I’m just not sure how to count that on my workout schedule. Is it the same as a run, hour for hour? Less? […]

I’m tired, stiff, and hot–which means that I had a decent workout yesterday. The issue is that it’s not as long as I want. Remember that it was just April when I did a 62 mile ride without much trouble, but I’m not convinced I could do the same now. But I’ll get there. Fitness […]

Basketball Was Not My Best Idea

One of the things that the Twitter gang on O’ahu does from time to time is gather for Tweeball, our monthly or so basketball game. And in a previous life I used to play a ton of basketball. Love playing still. But I stopped. And why did I stop playing the more times a week […]

I’m grateful for the days off. It’s a much needed few days off from work which can be really helpful in getting caught up on so many things, including coding projects, work for my part time job, cleaning house, and cleaning the truck. And a little bit for working out. My back is mostly better–it’s […]
