My Story Part One Hundred Twenty Five

I’m still amazed how well I did at the Hale’iwa Metric Century and Ford Island Bridge 10K, mostly because my feeling is that my training was sub optimal. To test how I’ll do with continued less than optimal training and diet, I have a 5K this weekend.

How well I’ll do I don’t know.

The fortunate part about this year is that I got in such effective training early in the year that, with the exception of the Great Aloha Run, I’ve done pretty well in every one of the events I’ve entered.

I hope that continues on Saturday.

Here’s another race I’m entered in, kind of in a last minute fashion this time: the Jamba Juice 5K Banana Man Chase. I’m not too sure what it involves beyond a typical 5K except that it’s for charity and that if you catch a runner in a banana suit you get a free year of […]

My Story Part One Hundred Twenty Four

I’m slowed by weather and my schedule. Last week I was out every night either working or work meetings or social obligations. Saturday I spent just recovering, and Sunday–today–the rain is horrible. Not the best training, no. And in addition, because I’ve been on the go so much my diet has been lacking too. This […]

Irrepressibly a Cyclist

While I’ve been doing a lot more organized runs than organized rides, I will say this: I am much more of a cyclist than anything else athletically. Certainly more than a runner or a swimmer or a basketball player. And I’m going to have to make sure that’s true to tackle the Livestrong Challenge successfully. […]

I have a certain amount of post ride letdown. The metric century was great in many ways. Hard and challenging but fun and saw some of my favorite Twitter folks then. But it was definitely the best ride I’ve had for awhile. The issue is I can’t really peak yet. Lots more to go, a […]

The Metric Century was a real challenge, but I made it through–and I didn’t die. In fact, I was doing well enough to be back in town on the beach in the afternoon at the third annual Hawai’i Geek Meet. So the verdict is, even if I was a bit sore and if even if […]

I’m hurting a little but I’m far from defeated. The Haleiwa Metric Century was a great, hard ride on a Sunday morning in great weather. It let me know where I was in terms of my training and how far I have to go. That can either be one hundred miles on the bike or […]

Sixty Two Miles of Heck: the Haleiwa Metric Century

No, it wasn’t hell. It was quite short of it, but it was still pretty tough. That makes it more like sixty two miles of heck. The Hale’iwa Metric Century started on Sunday morning at 7:30 am in, of course, Hale’iwa, which is on the north shore of O’ahu and far from me. I got […]

I’m going, ready or not. Sunday is the Hale’iwa Metric Century, and whether I’m going to do great or not will be determined by the training I’ve already done. There’s nothing to do but get a little bit of rest and drive across the island early on Sunday for a 62 mile bike ride. I’m […]

Hale’iwa: a Closer Look

The Metric Century run by the Honolulu Bicycling League is one of the more scenic organized rides in the United States. The first time I did the metric, however, it started in Waikiki, went through Waimanalo, then into Kailua, and came back the other way. The route changed a few weeks back in honor of […]
