I’ve come to the conclusion that balance is tough to come by. Between working my two jobs, cycling, running, blogging, podcasting, photography, and writing code, it’s tough to find time for everything.
Certain things get neglected. Certain things get dropped, at least for awhile.
I’m not going to give anything up, but it’s clear I really can’t add anything on at this point. Prioritizing takes on even more importance, and my next big events are mostly cycling. So cycling is number one.
I’ll see you folks on the bike, more and more.

I’m enthused for the first time in awhile. As I detailed yesterday, my Ford Island Bridge Run 10K result was not just substantially better than last year’s–which was a fiasco–it was substantially better than my disappointing result at the Great Aloha Run. Now, however, the emphasis is really more cycling than running, with the Haleiwa […]

After my disappointing performance in the Great Aloha Run, I was worried about how I’d do in the Ford Island Bridge 10K. This is the second time I’ve run this race and last year I struggled through it mightily. It appears I didn’t need to worry. The day started off with rain. A lot of […]

Today is the day before the day of the Ford Island Bridge 10K, which I am somewhat but not as well trained for as I’d like. I have to be doing better than last year, however, when I had a gouty arthritis attack a few days before. In preparation for this run, I will be, […]

I’m hurting a little, but not a lot. The one time I did a marathon–not trained as much as I wanted to be and needed to be–my biggest issue was my left knee, in particular the iliotibial band on my left knee. It’s bothering me a little now. Stretching, ice, and rest seem to be […]

I don’t talk a lot about glucose testing here. It’s not fun. It hurts. And it’s a chore even if you don’t mind the prick of your finger as many as five times–or more– every day. But there’s reason to talk about it now–to look at some of the very clear ways exercise helps me […]

I’m taking my own advice. Feeling stressed, with taxes upon me and a lack of time with an imposing action list and the unexpected passing of one of my dogs, I am refusing to just say, “Forget it,” and stop training and dieting. In fact, I’m stepping it up as best as I can. I […]

One of our family dogs died unexpectedly overnight on Friday. She had been a three time rescue from the Humane Society (we were the final ones to rescue her) so we were never really sure about her age or medical background. She had been having some trachea problems for awhile and had a tough day […]

I’m the living embodiment of my own worst critic. I know it but it doesn’t stop me. I’m never fast enough, or strong enough, or have enough endurance. The bike is never well tuned enough. The weather is either too hot or too cold or too windy or too voggy. Nothing’s ever perfect. The truth […]

My diet has still not gotten back to where I need it to be, so I’ve given myself an ultimatum. Tonight, Saturday, March 20, 2010, is the last day I’m willing to accept myself eating just any kind of food. Starting on Sunday, March 21, 2010, I need to get back to my regular training […]
