One of the big areas that I’ve slid in since the century ended is diet. I’ve gotten lazy.
Until the last month or so, I’ve been pretty diligent about my diet, but it’s really disintegrated with more social events, my schedule coming apart at the scenes, and just being outright lazy. That has to stop.
Today for the first time in awhile I made my usual strawberry oatmeal soy milk smoothie for both breakfast and dinner, and I’ll continue to do that for both Tuesdays and Wednesdays–nights I’m teaching. I also have to figure out something for Thursdays when I swim–I’ve been eating beforehand in a pretty unhealthy way, yet I sometimes get hypoglycemic.
These things need to be fixed. Now.
As much as I work out (which is lots when I’m really in gear), it’s harder to take care of fitness and health by working out tons than it is to prevent issues by watching intake. I have to get to do the latter again, much more carefully than I’ve been.

I’m making progress. Slowly, but it’s coming. I’d fallen so off the wagon the last few weeks I stopped making the smoothies for dinner I had done for months. Instead I was either eating out or eating more cheese sticks and almonds, chased by a Diet Pepsi. That has to stop. I’ve also been sleeping […]

I’m tired, still. This month has been full of celebrations (which are not over yet), working a weekend day or two, and a new computer system at work, all of which are conspiring to keep me tired. I dunno about you but I find that combining being tired with not working out to be a […]

I’m righting the ship here. After the century ride I gave myself longer of a time off from being serious about working out than I really wanted to. In the meantime, the days have gotten shorter and the weather has been either raining hard or incredibly hot and humid. Things are, however, turning around. With […]

It’s been a horrible work week so far, and I have another wedding (second this month), a funeral, and work–all on Saturday, so I’m going to be sporadic in posting over the next few days. Sorry about that. [ad#Google Adsense]

It’s like I’ve woken up again. The century has been done for awhile, I’m physically recovered from my near heat stroke and the various pain and tightness associated with that. I’ve also had a really busy few weeks with a couple of weddings and a couple of birthday parties–either done or on the horizon. I’ve […]

It’s dark earlier in the evenings and stays dark later in the mornings. It’s also colder. For those of you who don’t live in Hawai’i, you can stop laughing now. The truth is that it’s more difficult for me to do my outdoor training–aside from swimming–at this time of year. While I prefer running at […]

I’m catching up. Unfortunately, the training for the century combined with all kinds of other obligations (blogging, working, and a few birthdays and weddings this month) have conspired to put me far behind in getting things done. I’m taking a few days off from some of my off time obligations to get caught up–including getting […]

My next organized event will be a 5K run in December, the week before the marathon, which I won’t be doing. In American distance, that’s 3.107 miles (or so). It’s not a long run. But that said, since I’ve been only running two or three times a week and very short (2-4 mile) distances, I […]

It’s wet outside. Weather is one of the big issues with the kind of exercise I like to do. When it’s nasty outside, I’m left with lifting weights and jumping rope as my methods of exercise, and lifting weights is something I only do about three days a week anyway. Even Hawai’i has less than […]
